Penetration

The term penetration can mean several things:

In business, penetration is often short for market penetration, the degree to which a product or service is known and/or used among potential customers.
In firearms, penetration (firearms) refers to the ability to pierce the target; higher penetration means that it is more likely to pierce effective body armor.
For missiles, penetration can also refer to the ability reach the target, including avoiding being destroyed by defense measures; for this purpose penetration aids (penaids for short) are applied, see e.g. flight phases of ICBMs; see also countermeasure.
In sexology, sexual penetration is the penetration of an orifice as part of a sexual act

In basketball, penetration refers to the ability of a perimeter player (such as Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs) to drive through the opposing defense and get near the basket.
